What is Your Brand Strategy?
What is a brand? A singular idea or concept that you own inside the mind of the prospect.
- Al Ries
Developing a brand strategy can be one of the most challenging steps in the creation of your marketing plan. It is often the element that causes the biggest challenge to new businesses and in worse case scenarios, a weak brand will fizzle out before it’s even had a chance to see it’s full potential. Brand strategy is a crucial step in creating and maintaining the company identity, but it’s not exactly algorithmic as many a “marketing guru” would have you believe. It takes time, consideration, and creative thinking. Your brand identity will be communicated repeatedly, in many ways with frequency and consistency throughout the life of your business.
I’ve prepared a few items to think about when considering your brand.
What is Branding?
A strong brand is paramount as the competition for customers builds day by day. It’s important to invest time in the research , definition, and strengthening your brand. It’s the foundational piece in your marketing palette and something you want to be sure is projecting properly to your customers. Branding is not about getting your target audience to choose you over the competition, it is about getting them to see you as the only solution to their problem.
Defining Your Brand.
This is always the first step in the process of developing your brand strategy. To define what your brand is, is to create the foundation for all other components of your message. Your brand will serve as your measuring stick in evaluating any marketing communiqué, material or strategy.
What is the Objective of Your Brand?
A critical component of brand management is the clear and concise definition of the brand’s audience and the objectives that the brand hopes to achieve. Once you’ve determined your objectives, you must put a plan into action that will help you succeed in meeting those goals and objectives. Finally the next, and ongoing, step is to build and develop your brand by listing to your audience.
Who is Your Target Audience?
The power of your brand relies on the ability to focus. In order for your brand to be effectively strengthened, your target audience must identify with your message. It is necessary to find the right balance when defining your target market in a way that lets your audience know that you are talking specifically to them. This often requires companies to narrow down their target market.
With a strong brand you build credibility and have more influence on your target market which, in turn, motivates them to purchase from you. If properly executed, your company will be recognized as a leader.
