With marketing materials that I created, Columbia’s first full marathon in 13 years, attracted runners from 46 states and four countries.
I began working with Dan Hartley on marketing for the 2012 Columbia SC Marathon during the Summer of 2011. Starting out with identity creation and initial branding that would shape the image of the event, I worked one on one with Dan to develop a variety of materials instrumental in projecting a polished image for a fledgling event. We worked together to create a custom Power Point as a presentation tool to show potential sponsors, information and registration packets, web advertising components, business cards, letterhead, bibs, as well as all advertising for all newspaper and magazine outlets.
According to race director Dan Hartley, more than 725 people ran the 2012 Columbia SC Marathon, approximately 850 ran the half-marathon and more than 200 ran the 10K. Not too shabby for the first year, although I am looking forward to raising the bar for next years race
